Clark leaned against the bedpost and looked at Lex's tense back. "It'll be okay."

"No, it won't." Lex's removed his cufflinks with stunted, jerky motions. "Sam can fly."

"We knew it was a possibility—"

"That didn't mean I wanted it to happen." Lex braced stiffly against the dresser. Intense emotion reflected in his eyes, visible in the mirror. "I can barely stand you putting yourself in danger daily because of your Boy Scout need to help everyone. Sam is my child, I can't- I won't—"

"Hey, now." Clark shushed Lex comfortingly when Lex bit off his words with a clenched jaw. Clark wrapped his arms around Lex from behind and held him close. "You know I'd never let anything happen to Sam. Besides, he hasn't shown any desire to be a superhero."

"Neither did you, at his age," Lex said.

"I was saving plenty of people by then, including a certain bald best friend of mine repeatedly."

Clark's attempt at levity fell flat. Lex clenched his fists, knuckles white where they pressed against the dressertop. "This is my son."

"I know," Clark said solemnly.

Lex inhaled shakily, lowered his head, and closed his eyes. Clark rested his forehead against the back of Lex's neck and tightened his arms around Lex's waist. They didn't move for a long time.

FFL Timeline Updated
  • Awwww...
  • Oh, this makes me want to give Lex a hug.
  • So lovely and sweet, and so very, very Lex. But I can't help but think that when PJ starts flying, Lex will just be thrilled to get her out of the house for a while.
    • Hee. (Too bad PJ won't fly)
      • In one of your drabbles (I think it was the Onyx/Drone thing), PJ is a teenager who wants to sneak out of the house. If I remember correctly, you mention going out a window wasn't a problem with her levitating ability. (She also blackmailed Sam into disabling her window alarm. That's pure PJ.)
        • Levitating isn't flyyyying. *is tease*

She can jump off of things and stay in the air, but she can't propel herself anywhere. She has less powers/not as good working powers than Sam, getting more of the human side in her DNA. She does get the superhearing, though, unlike Sam (which is why Sam doesn't become a superhero - he can't hear the crying/screaming, unlike Clark).

PS I have all this worked out in my head. It's a crowded place.
          • But you haven't thought about this or anything, have you?

Your head may be a crowded place, but I bet it's an interesting and exciting one, to have all of this stuff in there.
            • It's quite... loud. And annoying, when I want to write everything at once, but can't because it doesn't work like that. So lists and more lists and mores lists.

I have PJ's and Sam's powers all mapped out, how long they live, when they die, as well as their respective spouses and PJ's kids and their spouses and kids. Everything Clark-Lex related is usually seat of the pants stuff. More fun that way.
  • *sniffles*
I love Lex. Love, love, love.
  • *woobles* Favoritest ever.

but then, i confess, they all are.....
  • God I just love the intensity of their relationship and am especially fond of Lex's characterization throughout the series.

    • I like to think that Clark and Lex are the epitome of what a good marriage is, ups and downs and fights and middleaged spread and all.
  • Poor Sam. At least PJ gets a lot of fun out of disappointing the parents.
  • Ah! *hugs them*

    Btw, sweet icon!
  • I love that even though he was raised by Lionel, Lex knows the true meaning of 'son'.
    • It kinda makes you sad, doesn't it? That maybe all Lex needs is to be truly loved to become such a wonderful man?
  • oh Lex >_< *cuddles him*
  • Awww, Lex. *snuggles him*
  • Aww!
  • As a parent I totally feel for Lex! As a reader I totally want to hear more about how Sam learns to fly... :)
  • So sweet, Lex is being all protective parent.
  • Oye! The fear. It's bad enough looking at the kid on the top rung of the jungle gym. Learning to fly must take the fear to a whole new level.
  • Aww, poor Lex. (My, these Luthors do take their parenting *seriously*...) But, really, better Sam than PJ with the flying thing. Him you can trust!
  • I love this universe. Thanks for sharing all those wonderful fics.
Do you mind if I friend you?
  • I never tire of reading fics from this universe/timeline, they are so charming and effervescent
  • Dude, fear? Totally understandable. Any parent would freak out. I wonder how Lex reacted when they realized they were kinda invulnerable? It's both kids, right? Hmm. *confused* Either way, totally fits. My poor woobie. *pets*
    • It's only Sam who can fly. PJ can levitate. They're both invulnerable to physical injury and Sam has a stronger immunity to illness/ailments. But just because they're invulnerable physically doesn't mean that they're automatically safe.

      Mwah!
